• Case 1: Jonas is a 22-year-old athlete who presents with complaints of irritation and fullness in his right ear. He has been training for six hours a day, including swimming, running, cycling, and weightlifting. He is concerned that the fullness in his ear and the irritation could require him to limit his training. He denies any recent upper respiratory infections, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness.
• Case 2: Thomas is an 18-year-old who returns from a recent trip with his varsity basketball team complaining of a sudden onset of severe throat pain, fever, headache, muscle pains, and malaise. He states that he fell ill yesterday but has come in because it is getting worse. He denies any coughing, sneezing, nausea, vomiting, or nasal discharge. Childhood immunizations completed: tetanus booster given two years ago. He claims that a few of his teammates also became sick and were unable to play in the tournament.
• Case 3: Marisol is a 26-year-old who presents with complaints of body aches and a low-grade fever for the past four days that she has treated with Tylenol. She has been having a non-productive cough. Her mother has had similar symptoms for the past two days. Marisol reports that she attended a baptismal party for a cousin over the weekend but all of the guests were fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus and she has already had her first dose two weeks ago. Her last menstrual period was three weeks ago and was regular. 

For the case you have chosen, post to the discussion:

• Discuss what questions you would ask the patient, what physical exam elements you would include, and what further testing you would want to have performed.
• In SOAP format, list: 
  • Pertinent positive findings that validate your main diagnosis
  • Pertinent negative findings that make you think of other differential diagnoses
  • Treatment plan, including: pharmacotherapy with complementary and OTC therapy, diagnostics (labs and testing), health education and lifestyle changes, age-appropriate preventive care, and follow-up to this visit.
• Use at least one scholarly source other than your textbook to connect your response to national guidelines and evidence-based research in support of your ideas.
