This paper will be approximately 5-7 pages in length, double-spaced, with margins no larger than 1 inch, and citing a minimum of five scholarly sources (articles from refereed journals or texts that have been reviewed in refereed journals). The format of the paper will follow that required by the American Psychological Association 6 or 7. If there are any doubts about the specifics of this format, the APA Publication Manual should be consulted. The topic of the paper will be the biomedical and psychosocial treatments indicated for a specific disorder.

The paper will explore and explain why a specific biomedical and psychosocial treatments are indicated for the disorder under discussion and what controlled studies or other acceptable evidence exists to demonstrate effectiveness of the treatment approach(s). Cite at least 5 peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last 10 years as a part of your “evidence” that demonstrates treatment effectiveness. Further, special considerations in the application of general psychosocial treatment approaches (e.g., family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, etc.) should be discussed and explained.

Finally, the paper must contain a discussion of the cultural appropriateness of at least one on the psychosocial treatments discussed to a specific ethnic group (African American, Native American, Latino, etc.). This discussion will indicate any evidence that would indicate differential therapeutic efficacy with a specific ethnic group and/or how the treatment in question has been modified to make it more culturally appropriate. Do not waste time describing the disorder in detail unless such description is essential for the understanding of the treatments you will discuss.

Assume that we all know the signs and symptoms of the disorder and do not need a two-page description of it. You may select a topic of your choice from the disorders under consideration in this course. If you have any doubts or questions, please consult with me. *Note that this paper should not contain quotations from research papers or sources. Rather, the student should paraphrase information into their own words to indicate that they have read and understood the material.

Your work will be graded on a 100-point scale. Your papers will be graded based on your ability to do three things: 1) utilize scholarly resources as a means of exploring what is known about your topic; 2) draw cogent inferences and conclusions from these scholarly resources to discuss your topic and argue for a defensible point of view; and 3) express yourself in a clear, direct, economical, and grammatically correct manner including proper use of APA 6 or 7. To this end, give yourself sufficient time to research, write, revise, and rewrite your work
