Overview

Professional organization membership is just one way to support the mission of nursing. Remember that professional organizations offer support for nursing in many ways from creating practice standards to lobbying and supporting legislation favorable to nursing. In this multi-week assignment, you will create a PowerPoint presentation about a professional organization. Choose an organization that you are interested in learning about or joining.

This assignment is worth 25 points.

· Distinguish the professional responsibilities that accompany the nursing profession.

Directions

In this assignment, you will create and post a PowerPoint presentation related to a professional organization that a nurse can join. Examples: any specialty organization such as American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) is appropriate, as well as state organizations such as the Indiana State Nursing Association (ISNA) or Indiana Emergency Nurses Association (EANA). There are also broader associations such as American Lung Association, etc. Look around and see what interests you, but make sure if it is a broader organization and that it has a “professional” membership option. 1. Find an appropriate organization that pertains to your area or your interest in nursing.

2. Develop a PowerPoint presentation that highlights the organization. The presentation should:

a. Be professional in appearance (color choice, layout, and graphics).

b. Be free of spelling and grammatical errors.

c. Be crafted so there is adequate “white space.”

3. Address the following in your presentation (one slide for each). Slide 1: Title Slide: Name of organization, your name, date due. Slide 2: Name of organization, website or location of organization

Slide 3: What is the purpose /aim/ mission of this organization?

Slide 4: Identify any ethical/moral positions that the organization has. This could be in the form of white papers, moral initiatives, community and/or global outreach programs. For example, does the organization lobby in Washington for nursing issues? Does the organization organize or support health and/or morally based initiatives? These can be listed as bullet points.

Slide 5: Select one bullet point on Slide four and explain its ethical importance in a brief statement and identify which provision(s) and section(s) of the ANA Code that supports it.

Slide 6: Would you consider joining this organization…why or why not?
