Dioxin is a persistent organic pollutant (POP) belonging to the class of a list of dangerous pollutants called dirty dozen. They have high potential for toxicity and are known to affect several parts of the body and organ systems. They are retained within the body once they are exposed to it since the fatty tissues of the body have high absorbance with the dioxins having a half life of about 10 years which is quite high. Its accumulation in the food chain is proportional to the location of the animal in the food chain, the higher that animal, the higher the dioxin content. Chemically dioxin is 2,3,7,8- chlorofluorocarbon para dioxin (TCID). Poly chlorinated bedizen para dioxins (PCIDs) and poly chlorinated discouragements (PCDFs encompass a group of compounds collectively called dioxins. There are about 419 dioxins in which only as few as 40 have high toxicity. The most toxic dioxin is TCID.
