Gain a better understanding of MI, the steps of how to engage ambivalence and how health educators can use this as a tool for behavior change. Locate and read several scholarly articles about motivational interviewing and its use in health education settings. There are four parts to this assignment; complete each part into one paper.
- From your readings, develop a reference page of 4 professional resources on using motivational interviewing in health education practice (book chapters, video clips, research articles). The reference page must be cited APA and should be the last page of this assignment.
- From your reading, and, citing all of your resources from your references page (#1 above), write an overview of what you learned about MI and how motivational interviewing is used in health/health education settings. Make sure to cite all references from your reference list. This should be the first section of your assignment.
- Develop a document entitled “MI Strategiesâ€. Choose a health topic and, using that health topic (quitting smoking, for example), give a detailed definition and rationale for using each of the five strategies during an MI interview (open ended questions, affirming, reflective listening, summarizing, eliciting change talk). Next, give two or more examples for EACH of the five strategies. This should be the second section of your assignment.- Health topic is quitting drinking.
