Preparing for the Lesson Planning Projects

PREPARING FOR THE LESSON PLANNING PROJECTS

READ CAREFULLY AND REVIEW THE VIDEO BELOW. The video is designed to help you pass the project on the first try.

As you begin the next three projects, 700.3, 700.4, and 700.5, it is important that you know the purpose and goals of the projects.

Texas Teachers and all educator preparation programs are required to provide evidence that you can meet the standards for a professional educator. Projects 700.3, 700.4 and 700.5 meet the requirements from:

Standard 1: Instructional Planning and Delivery. Teachers demonstrate their understanding of instructional planning and delivery by providing standards-based, data-driven, differentiated instruction that engages students, makes appropriate use of technology, and makes learning relevant for today’s learners.

Standard 3: Content Knowledge and Expertise. Teachers exhibit a comprehensive understanding of their content, discipline, and related pedagogy as demonstrated through the quality of the design and execution of lessons and their ability to match objectives and activities to relevant state standards.

The projects are not like the lesson plans you submit at a school. These are projects, designed to see if you know the technical elements of lesson planning. The projects are designed to evaluate your knowledge and skills in lesson planning. The three projects are comprehensive, but each project scores a different aspect of the lesson plan. Please allow 5 – 7 business days for scoring.

700.3 (this project) evaluates your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Using the state standard to write learning objectives
  • Aligning the rigor of the state standard to the rigor of the learning objective
  • Developing a performance measure that is aligned to the state standard and is included in the learning objective
  • Recognizing the basic elements of lesson planning
  • Be sure your learning objective includes the assessment. You must include how you will measure student learning in the learning objective. People fail this project because they do not include this in their learning objective.

For 700.3, you will write three complete lesson plans and submit each one for evaluation and feedback. You will find the TEKS by subject area here (Links to an external site.).

Please use the following format for submission of your plans. This is not a traditional lesson plan format but is designed to walk you through the process of what will be evaluated. Additionally, you may download the rubric here to understand the expectations of the project. You must score at least 32 out of 40 points on each lesson plan to be successful. You may submit each plan until you reach the passing score, or until you have reached four re-submissions. The following exemplar lesson plan may also be useful for you.

The following 30 minute video will explain the basic elements of what is required in this project to be successful. Please watch the video to understand exactly how your plans will be scored.

Preparing for the Lesson Planning Projects

PREPARING FOR THE LESSON PLANNING PROJECTS

READ CAREFULLY AND REVIEW THE VIDEO BELOW. The video is designed to help you pass the project on the first try. This project is different from TNT 700.3 and has different requirements. Thus, the video and rubric are different.

PROJECT CRITERIA

Now we continue our lesson planning projects. Recall that you will use the same three lesson plans that you submitted in 700.3. Please do not submit those plans in this project until you have successfully completed 700.3 and reached the “Course Complete” page.

Recall as well that these projects are NOT the same as you submit in school, but are evaluating if you can meet the technical standards of lesson planning, as required by the Texas Education System.

This project, 700.4 continues with those same three plans, this time evaluating different parts of the lesson plan. Your coursework preceding this project will have prepared you for the evaluation criteria of this project. Using the feedback from your submissions in 700.3, and the knowledge gained in the preceding coursework revise and submit your plans for initial evaluation in this project.

As before, this project is much more detailed than lesson plans typically used in the classroom. The projects are designed to evaluate your skills in a comprehensive way; thus you are asked to provide much more detail than traditional plans so that your instructor is able to evaluate your skills in these areas. Please allow 5 – 7 business days for scoring.

700.4 (this project) evaluates your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Instructional strategies
  • The inclusion of effective literacy strategies
  • The inclusion of effective student use of technology (Every lesson must include the active use of student technology. Without this, you will not pass this project.)
  • The extent to which you have differentiated each lesson (This is evaluated through the reteach activities and extension activities. Extension activities are for students who already know the content you will be teaching. You must include activities for both students who don’t understand the content, and those who already do and need to extend their learning.)

For 700.4, you will submit three complete lesson plans for evaluation and feedback. You will use the same format and plans as submitted in 700.3 after revising to meet the criteria being evaluated in 700.4.

You must include literacy strategies and technology use by students regardless of the grade level or content area. We are assessing your ability to integrate literacy and technology into any lesson.

You may download the rubric here to understand the evaluation criteria of the project. You must score at least 32 out of 40 points on each lesson plan to be successful. You may submit each plan until you reach the passing score, or until you have reached four re-submissions. When you have received passing scores on all lesson plans, please return to the home page of this course and select the “Course Complete” link to conclude the course. The “Course Complete” page posts your completion date to your portal.

The video below is a different video from 700.3. The video is specific to this project and will explain the basic elements of what is required in this project to be successful. The video is 35 minutes and will save you a great deal of time when preparing for this project. Please watch the video to understand exactly how your plans will be scored.
