In this attached excerpt from The Exegesis—an entry penned some fourteen months after his 2-3-74 revelation—Dick mulls over a number of hypotheses on both the causes and effects—
personal and world-political—of his visions.
Some questions you should address in your critical reflection:
1. Why, according to pkd, did the revelation come to him, of all people? Why is it so rare?
2. What, according to pkd, was revealed about the nature of reality, and our place in it?
3. What are the political implications of his vision?
4. How would pkd characterize the role of empirical investigation in religion?
By ‘critical reflection’ it means that more than simply a summary of the excerpt should be done. What do you think of it? Feel free to be selective in the critical attentions, not all questions have to be answered but at least 2 of them should.
Mastering of course theory should be shown by relating to the readings attached. Thus the readings and presentations attached should be read first. Also, at least two scholarly, extra sources should be used. Once an agreement has been made, the course content will be uploaded for reference in writing.
You may have to look up many of the terms he drops (e.g. Paraclete, Bucke’s cosmic consciousness, ma’at).
